Qatar University (QU) signed yesterday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) to establish cooperation in education and scientific research fields. The agreement was signed by QU President Dr Hassan Al-Derham and RasGas Chief Executive Officer Mr Hamad Mubarak Al-Muhannadi in the presence of QU faculty and officials from both institutions.
The agreement includes scientific research and strategic studies, scholarships and training for QU students, as well as training for RasGas’ executive leadership and staff. It also covers the exchange of professional expertise, scientists and researchers in the areas of business administration and engineering. Both institutions will also collaborate on activities related to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to promote awareness, organize joint specialized conferences, seminars and workshops, with the view to engaging students in volunteering activities for community service in Qatar.
Commenting on the agreement, Dr Al-Derham: “We are pleased to partner in this initiative which will benefit QU business and engineering students, as well as RasGas members, in academic and scientific research in the energy field. It cannot be overstated the importance of such cooperative activities that bring together higher education and industry and that ultimately contribute to the country’s ambitions towards a knowledge-based economy and the realization of the society’s aspirations. Knowledge exchange is critical in such cooperation and we look forward to the successful outcomes that will emerge from it.”
Mr Al-Muhannadi said: “RasGas is pleased to enhance its ties with Qatar University to promote education. In an ever-changing society, investing in education and scientific research is the best contribution a business can make towards shaping the professionals of tomorrow to build a knowledge-based society and support Qatar in achieving the goals set out in its National Vision 2030.”
