An agreement signed recently between Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS) and Global EnerTec AG/Germany will facilitate joint research activities between both institutions in the field of waste management and recycling.
The agreement was signed by CAS dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi and Global EnerTec AG/Germany CEO Mrs Elena Weibert, in the presence of CAS associate deans for Academic Affairs Dr Hassan Abdulaziz and for Outreach and Engagement Dr Khalifa Hazaa, CAS Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences (DBES) head Dr Fatima Al-Naemi, Global EnerTec AG/Germany Production Manager Mr Juergen Fechner, as well as QU faculty and staff.
The terms of the agreement include collaboration for educational, research and training opportunities that will benefit CAS faculty and students, and scientists from Global EnerTec. They also include cooperation to promote research on flue gas treatment, recycling of waste from petrol industry, and waste water treatment. Both institutions will also organize joint training, conferences and workshops in many areas related to waste management and recycling.
Commenting on the agreement Dr Mustafawi said: “CAS is pleased to partner with Global EnerTec which will serve to advance our students’ skills and knowledge in the field of waste management and recycling. Through the expertise of Global EnerTec scientists, our students will benefit from sound opportunities to develop research ideas that are aligned with national initiatives on managing, reducing and repurposing waste as part of the country’s stated goals on environment conservation and sustainable development. This collaboration reflects the College’s commitment to providing hands-on experience to its students and empowering them towards becoming the country’s future leaders and ambassadors, and strong role models for the younger generation.”
Mrs Weibert said: “It is a great honor to sign this agreement with such a prestigious university. This MoU builds on the past success of a previous MoU signed between QU and laboratories of environmental analysis in 2013. I hope that signing this MoU will be the beginning of a fruitful and long cooperation with Qatar University.”
