An agreement signed yesterday between Qatar University (QU) and QDSBG Group established a Professorial Chair in Civil Infrastructure at QU College of Engineering (CENG).
The agreement was signed by QU President Dr Hassan Al-Derham and QDSBG Group Chairman Mr Khalid Al Sayed in the presence of officials from both institutions, as well as QU faculty and staff. The chair position will benefit students of CENG Civil Engineering Department, will engage them in senior projects, and supervisetheir summer training. In the terms of the agreement, QDSBG will fund the chair position over a three-year term from 2015-2018. Both institutions will also cooperate to provide joint research and consulting activities, and develop tailored training programs.
Commenting on the agreement, Dr Al-Derham said: “This agreement will contribute to fulfilling national needs for high-quality scientific research and training in the field of civil engineering and infrastructure. It highlights the College’s ongoing efforts to provide an inspiring learning and teaching environment that promotes a culture of innovation among students, and enables them to excel and succeed. It also shows QU’s commitment to graduating highly qualified professionals able to contribute to the fast-changing civil engineering and infrastructure development scene in Qatar, including dissemination of knowledge, deployment of state-of-the-art technology, and application of best practice in civil engineering and infrastructure.”
Mr Al Sayed said: “QDSBG understands the unique demands and opportunities of the construction business in Qatar, and we are honored to be building the infrastructure that Qatar’s future and 2030 Vision relies on. This agreement to establish a new chair represents QDSBG’s long-term commitment to Qatar as we lend our expertise and add value to education and research at QU.
