Qatar University’s (QU) College of Health Sciences (CHS) organized yesterday its first event of the new academic semester ‘Coffee with the Dean’ to welcome its faculty and staff. Sunday officially marked that start of the Fall/Spring term at QU.
The event started with a message from CHS Dean, Dr. Asmaa Althani, who summarized the most impressive achievements of the past academic year and outlined the major challenges of the upcoming one. Dr. Althani stressed on the importance of presenting a unified vision of Qatar University’s newly established Health Cluster -the umbrella that brings together all health related concentrations at QU- through research, collaborations and community service. Dr. Althani said: “Last year was an impressive one as it welcomed the first batch of physical therapy and rehabilitation science students, the first batch of master’s students in genetic counseling and the first batch of PhD students in biomedical sciences. And we are starting this academic year by finalizing in a new program, the clinical dietetics master’s program that is presently under review.”
The dean’s speech was followed by the welcoming message from the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Malki, who presented the heads of the departments and new academic and curricula changes. This was followed by a presentation by the Head of the Graduate and Research Studies office, Dr. Maha Al Asmakh, who outlined the main strategic plan for upcoming grants, research and publications. The event concluded with a short introduction by the heads of the four departments of the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Marwan Abu-Madi, Head of the Biomedical Sciences; Dr. Tahra El-Obeid, Head of Human Nutrition Department; Dr. Hanan Abdul Rahim, Head of the Public Health Department, and Dr. Emma Stokes, Head of the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences.
