The Arabic Language Department at Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS) hosted the “First Meeting of the Departments of Arabic Language in the GCC” on March 2. Themed “Study Plans and Variables Age - Development challenges and Prospects Update”, the event aimed to find solutions for the challenges that face the development of the Arabic language in the GCC.
Attendees included CAS Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies Prof Hala Sultan Al-Easa, CAS Arabic Language Department Head Dr Maryam Al-Naemi, and Assistant Professor at CAS Arabic Language Department and Chair of the event’s organizing committee Dr Mohamed Mostafa Selim, as well as CAS faculty and staff. The event drew 22 heads of Arabic language Departments from universities in the GCC to share their ideas and experience and discuss various topics related to the development of the Arabic language in the GCC. The event’s program included four (4) sessions entitled “Study plan and labor market’s requirements”, “The plan and student: language and research skills”, “Teaching methods and content components” and “Graduate studies and research prospects interfaces”.
In her remarks, Prof Hala Sultan Al-Easa said: “The meeting is a good opportunity to bring together experts from universities in the GCC to understand the current status of the Arabic language in order to ensure its continuity. We hope to put in practice the exchanged ideas in this meeting and organize mutual visits between heads of Arabic language departments from universities in the GCC.” Dr Maryam Al-Naemi said: “The meeting aims to provide a platform to discuss and develop contemporary study plans and programs. The Arabic language departments are responsible for providing the necessary support to enhance the visibility and the use of the Arabic language. This objective cannot be achieved without the establishment of an intellectual platform that helps us to develop study plans and interdisciplinary programs that facilitate the combination between the Arabic language and sciences.”
