Qatar University (QU) colleges of Engineering (CENG) and Business and Economics (CBE) announced the winners of the 4th Annual Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest 2016 at the closing ceremony which was held on December 20.
The contest aimed to enhance the students’ entrepreneurial skills, to raise their awareness on the importance of entrepreneurial activities, and to provide them with guidance on the best techniques to develop sound business plans. This year’s competition covered 5 major tracks -- Health Sciences, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Technology Based Projects, Energy and Environment, Social Enterprises, and Business Services. It included students from CENG (47%), CBE (43%), and other colleges (10%).
Participating teams were required to present their pitches outlining the essence of their business ideas to a panel of judges. 215 students participated in the contest which drew a large number of business ideas -- ICT and Technology Based Projects, Business Services, Social Enterprises, Health Sciences, and Energy and Environment. 1st-place winners were students Muna Al Remaihi and Lina Selim (CENG). 2nd-place winner was student Raghad Akram Abughazza (CENG), and 3rd-place winners were Mohammed Saad and Mohammed Amaan Sheikh (CENG).

CBE Dean Dr Khalid Shams Al-Abdulqader said: “This contest provided CBE students with an invaluable opportunity to learn from experts and develop their skills in very specialised areas of business. We are delighted to support our students to advance their knowledge and experience towards their future success as entrepreneurs.”
