An agreement signed between Qatar University (QU) and Qatar Charity on June 20 will establish collaboration in the field of volunteerism and civic engagement.
The terms of the agreement include collaboration between both institutions to expand the culture of volunteerism among youth, and to provide young people with a range of volunteering opportunities inside and outside Qatar. Also included are the establishment of a Civic Engagement Office at the Center for Volunteerism and Community Service in QU Male Activity Building to supervise the volunteering activities and campaigns of both institutions.
The agreement also covers joint volunteering and community service activities, the establishment of a research committee for student training and internship programs, and cooperation between both parties to provide financial aid to five international students who have satisfied the requirements for admission at QU. The agreement was signed by QU president Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham and Qatar Charity chief executive officer Mr Yusuf Bin Ahmed Al Kuwari in the presence of QU Associate VP for Student Affairs Mr AbdullaAl-Yafei, and Qatar Charity Community Development Centre director Mr Ali Atiq Al Abdulla, as well as officials from both institutions.
In his remarks, Dr Al Derham said: “We are pleased to collaborate with Qatar Charity on this initiative which will enhance QU students’ sense of civic responsibility and spirit of volunteerism. This agreement highlights QU’s commitment to developing partnerships with private and government organizations with the aim to drive social and economic growth in Qatar. It also underlines the organization’s ongoing efforts to provide students with various opportunities through which they can strengthen their teamwork, organizational and communication skills which will serve them in their future roles as Qatar’s leaders.”
Mr Al Kuwari said: “We are pleased to partner with Qatar University in the spirit of promoting volunteerism and civic engagement among young people. This agreement will contribute to providing students with a wide range of volunteering opportunities both within the campus and in the wider community, which will help them develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills while empowering them towards becoming the country’s future leaders.”
